About the TAPIR project

The TAPIR project of the joint partners UOS and TIB includes the following sub-projects:

  • In the sub-project "Data Analysis and Use Cases", practical use cases are identified at UOS and the results are evaluated with regard to data quality.
  • The sub-project "Technical Development" is dedicated to the technical implementation of the project, in particular with regard to the harvesting of research information on the basis of persistent identifiers and the semi-automated production of research reports with the open source software VIVO.

This means the technical development of a tool for semi-automated data import, with the help of which data can be exported from openly accessible data sources, mapped to the VIVO ontology and imported into VIVO. For this purpose, the development of a querying tool is necessary, with which previously identified, openly accessible data sources can be queried. With the help of this tool, it should be possible to obtain information about, for example, the research output of an organisation via various entry points based on persistent identifiers (e.g. list of ORCID-IDs, DOIs or ROR-ID).

Great emphasis will be placed on the validation and matching of data. Manually prepared data that has already been validated for reporting purposes is collected, viewed and selected for comparison with (partially) automatically collected data. The existing data is collected, cleaned, converted and imported into two VIVOs provided for this purpose, one for each use case:

  1. Comparison of the data required to comply with the Lower Saxony Guidelines for Transparency in Research (university, organisational unit, client, project title, duration and funding amount) for the period 2015 to 2018. Starting with the person responsible for the project (person), research institutions (organisations) or clients (project sponsors), the publications resulting from third-party funded projects are to be supplemented as research results in the presentation of the projects and linked with further information on the publication (UOS).
  2. Comparison of the manually aggregated data to present the research performance at various internal organisational levels such as individual researchers, research groups (TIB) and/or research institutions/positions/centers (UOS).

This is followed by an evaluation of the data from the different sources for the use cases. On this basis, action requirements for the applications of (partially) automated reporting are derived and summarised in a results report.

In addition, a reporting tool is being developed that can output a configurable report from the VIVO systems set up in the course of the project on the basis of the data described above. The output will be compatible with the Research Core Data Set (KDSF) on the basis of the VIVO ontology extended by the TIB to map the KDSF basic model (VIVO-KDSF integration).
