The Earth System Sciences collection (ESS) is part of the TIB Terminology Service. Therefore we are excited to announce the system upgrade of the TIB TS from OLS3 to the advanced OLS4 Backend System. OLS4 features significant improvements, enhanced performance, and a more intuitive user experience. Nevertheless, you may experience missing ontologies for a short time during the transition phase.
As part of this upgrade, the API endpoint URL has been updated to a more descriptive and user-friendly address: https://api.terminology.tib.eu. The new OLS4 based API provides two sets of endpoints that are called V1 and V2:
- V1 provides full compatibility with the OLS3 based API and can be accessed at https://api.terminology.tib.eu, e.g. retrieving metadata from the SWEET ontology using https://api.terminology.tib.eu/api/ontologies/SWEET/.
V2 brings a new sophisticated and simplified approach to entity retrieval, e.g. all properties of the SWEET ontology can be retrieved with https://api.terminology.tib.eu/api/v2/ontologies/SWEET/properties.

To ensure a smooth migration for all users, both the OLS3 API and the OLS4 API will be maintained for a transition period until 30.05.2025. During this time, you can continue using the OLS3 API, though we encourage you to switch to the OLS4 API at your earliest convenience to take full advantage of the new features and improvements.
