Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB)
Homepage: https://www.tib.eu/en
Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) is the German National Library of Technology, Architecture, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics, providing research and industry with literature and information. TIB is a member of the Leibniz Association with the task of i) preserving recorded knowledge and of ii) providing up-to-date information today and in the future, independent of place and time. The TIB is committed to Open Access and thus supports unrestricted and free access to scientific information. The TIB's Research and Development Department conducts independent research to develop innovative library services.
From TIB are involved:
- PID and Metadata Services Unit: The unit operates the DOI Service of the TIB and participates in numerous national and international initiatives such as DataCite and ORCID for the further development of persistent identifiers (PIDs) and metadata standards to research data, publications, authors, scientific institutions and much more.
- Lab Non-Textual Materials (NTM): The Lab Non-Textual Materials (NTM) is part of the Competence Centre for Non-Textual Materials. The Lab NTM analyses user needs and requirements regarding discoverability, citation and reuse of scientific videos, 3D models, images, graphics, research data and software. Based on these requirements, user-centered services, tools and infrastructures are developed in close cooperation with the scientific communities.
- Open Science Lab: The Open Science Lab (OSL) focuses on the transition to open, inclusive and collaborative digital science. In cooperation with the scientific community, TIB is testing new methods and tools for supporting the work of researchers.
RWTH Aachen University
Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH Aachen University), established in 1870, is the largest technical university in Germany and one of the 11 German Universities of Excellence. Currently more than 45,000 students are enrolled in over 150 degree programmes. Almost 10,000 foreign students and a network including over 100 universities worldwide highlight the university’s strong international orientation. The university counts more than 500 professors as well as more than 5,000 academic staff members. The university’s annual budget amounts to 900 M€ of which more than 300 M€ are covered through external funding.
The Computer Science Department at RWTH Aachen University was founded in 1972. The department has currently more than 2600 students, 28 professors and 236 research and administrative post. It is ranked 51–100 worldwide in the Computer Science and Information Systems subject by the QS World Universities Ranking. Informatik 5 (Information Systems) has 30 researchers active in Semantic Web, Linked Data and Information Systems. Informatik 5 focuses on Big Data & Model Management, Engineering Information Systems, Advanced Community Information Systems (ACIS) and Computer Supported Cooperative Work - CSCW. Professor Stefan Decker is a leading researcher in the Semantic Web and Linked Data field. RWTH closely collaborates with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, which is also headed by Professor Decker.
