BITS at CORDI 2025 in Aachen

On September 26, BITS contributed to the Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CORDI 2025) in Aachen with a poster presentation on:

“Enhancing Interoperability in Earth System Sciences: The BITS Project and the Role of the TIB Terminology Service”
(Anette Ganske, Alexander Wolodkin, Angelina Kraft, Hannes Thiemann)

The poster highlighted how the BITS project addresses one of the central challenges in Earth System Sciences: semantic heterogeneity. By integrating more than 40 domain-relevant vocabularies into the TIB Terminology Service, BITS helps make scientific data more discoverable, interoperable, and reusable.

Use cases from the World Data Center for Climate (WDCC) and the Senckenberg – Leibniz Institution for Biodiversity and Earth System Research (SGN) demonstrated how the Terminology Service supports standardized metadata and automated annotation — paving the way for more robust, FAIR, and interdisciplinary research.
